A Spy in Old West Point is written by Anne Emery. A Spy in Old West Point is a story about a 14 year old boy named Jock Fraser in the midst of the Revolutionary War. Jock is the son of George Fraser, a gunsmith who's forge is well known throughout the area. One stormy day, a stranger comes up their road on his horse and stops in front of their house. When he is invited inside he drops a little piece of paper in their bellows near their fire-place. No one in their family sees this except Jock. When the Stranger is packing up to leave he says that if someone comes to their house and says he fights for the Liberty Tree to let him inside their house. Many days later a man comes up to their house, says he fights for the Liberty Tree and is let inside. When the man is let inside, Jock sees him pick up the paper in between their bellows and drops another one in the same spot. So this pattern continues, when one day a man walks up their driveway. The man explains that his name is
Dick Conway a British deserter who used to be a gunsmith's apprentice. When Jock introduces Dick to his father, Dick shows them his gun. Dick's gun was called a Ferguson, a short rifle that loads twice as fast as a regular rifle. When Dick is invited to come and work at Jock's home as a apprentice, Jock's father tells Dick to hide his valuable gun so that no one could see it and try to steal it. For the next year Dick continues to work for Jock's Father when Jock's Father is kidnapped because he was unable to pay his bills (due to the fact that he was unable to make new guns because of iron prices). Jock decides to try to get his father back and grabs the Ferguson gun, when the gun is stolen! How will Jock get his father and the Ferguson! Continue the struggle to survive with Jock's family during the Revolutionary War.
